A little about me!

My Education

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University with a major in chemistry and a minor in biology in 2001.  After receiving my Bachelors degree, I completed my student teaching at Highlander Way Middle School in 2002-03.  I also was a long term substitute at Howell High School for four months of the 2005-06 school year.  In August of 2007, I completed my Masters of Arts degree in Curriculum and Teaching.  I also received this degree from MSU.

My Time in Howell

I had spent a lot of time working and learning in Howell Public Schools prior to being hired as a full time teacher.  I think of this district as the place in which I laid my roots and am excited that I have the chance to continue to grow as an educator in Howell Public Schools.

This is my tenth year teaching in Howell, and my ninth year at the Freshman Campus.  I thoroughly enjoy teaching ninth grade students.  Their additions to classroom discussions, love of life, willingness to help, and bright smiles are refreshing.  My students remind me everyday of the reasons that I became a teacher.

My Classroom

I am excited to get to know each of my students as the year progresses.  I have a year full of fun activities, group projects, and academically stimulating challenges planned.  My goal is to create a safe and comfortable learning environment, while challenging students to achieve their very best.

I am also the sponsor for the Freshman class.  This is the sixth year that I will be working with the Freshman Student Council.  It is exciting to see the ideas that the students have and to work alongside of them with float building, fundraising, and charity work.  It has been a learning experience, but also a lot of fun!

My Family

My family is a very important part of my life.  I live in Brighton with my husband Tom.  We have a 7 year old son, Brody and a 5 year old daughter,  Kendall.  Being a mom still seems like a new experience everyday, but I love every minute of it!  Brody will be in 2nd grade this year, so my adventure as a parent of a school aged child is now in its third year!  Kendall started kindergarten this year and absolutely loves it!  Both of my children currently play soccer and Brody is taking a baseball skills class.  Both of them also played tee ball in the spring and both played basketball last winter.  Kendall is all signed up for dance again!  This will be her third year doing tap and ballet.  They also keep me busy with swim lessons in the winter.  We also have a puggle (half beagle, half pug) named Miller. My family definitely keeps me busy!!
