In the spring of 2015, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) announced that the SAT (not the ACT) would be the college readiness exam administered as part of the Michigan Merit Examination (MME). The SAT is part of the College Board’s Suite of Assessments, which includes the PSAT, the the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10. The state will also offer the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10 to ninth- and 10th-grade students free of charge in the spring.
The SAT has been redesigned and reflects what students are already learning in their classrooms. The redesigned SAT features these key content changes:
- Words in context
- Command of evidence
- Essay analyzing a source
- Math that matters most
- Problems grounded in real-world contexts
- Analysis in science and in history/social studies
- U.S. founding documents and the great global conversation
- No penalty for guessing
